Can Car Insurance Cover my Pets?
It’s not enough to have a car insurance cover only as it should involve several other aspects as well. The first and foremost of these features include car insurance covers for your pets. The reason is quite simple since in the absent of it you will be the worst sufferer. Are you at a loss going through these? What I am narrating results from my personal experiences. I, while driving one day, encountered an accident and the only creature sitting next to me in the car was Brawny, my beloved dog. He was injured.
Though the insurance claim was fulfilled, I had to run from pillar to post to arrange insurance cover for Brawny but I did fail miserably. There are, in fact, a few car insurance companies whose policies do cover pets but you have to find them in the beginning (when you are planning to have car insurance covers). It is known that the pet would be entitled to a third-party claim if someone hits your vehicle while you are driving. However, if the reality is reverse or you are in the wrong, you may have to check your auto insurance policy; there might be exclusions.
What types of exclusions may be there?
It may be that, the collision coverage (if you have it) will pay you for the damage and repairs to your car. But there may be exclusions like the transport of personal property, like a fragile box, a television set, or your pet. In this case, your pet will not be covered.
As per a number of auto insurance companies, a pet is the personal property of the owner and this indicates, in case of injury of the pet in a major accident (resulting from the other driver’s fault) you have the right to file a claim for your pet and moreover, for its betterment. But, if the pet’s death is the result of the car accident, your compensation would be limited. The only reason is that the bulk of insurance companies do not consider the loss of pets to be included in "loss of companionship" compensation as they are deemed "personal property." In that case, it’s always better to make a claim for the market value of your pet, provided its death is confirmed.
But, even after this, it’s not easy to get the apposite compensation. The insurance company will, definitely, conduct its own investigations and if examiners come across any flaws on your part, you may become the worst looser. In order to avoid these, you have to adopt precautionary measures.
What are the precautionary measures?
These precautionary measures have to be adopted for protection. Hence, make sure to arrange a cage and keep the pet in it. This will stop them from roaming all through your vehicle and remove disruption for you. Dogs should ride in the back of the car at all times and if the vehicle is a truck, they should be kept in truck bed in a comfortable kennel. You can find out more from internet.
